California State Parks Specialized License Plate Now Available

California State Parks Specialized License Plate Now Available

California State Parks (State Parks) has unveiled its specialized vehicle license plate "ParksPLATE”.

The design of the plate features California’s official tree, the California redwood. Proceeds from the sale and annual renewal of the plate will provide an ongoing funding source for the restoration and preservation of state parks across California.

State Parks officials unveiled the specialized plate at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park where some of the most extensive restorations since a major reconstruction effort in the 1890s are currently underway. Plate sales will support restoration projects like this one and help the department restore and preserve California’s state park system.

Yellow Cab of Sacramento, Berg Injury Lawyers partner to offer free Halloween rides home

Yellow Cab of Sacramento, Berg Injury Lawyers partner to offer free Halloween rides home

Yellow Cab of Sacramento is partnering with Berg Injury Lawyers to offer free, safe rides home on Halloween night for people in downtown/midtown Sacramento.

Halloween has become a particularly dangerous night for both motorists and pedestrians. Because of the high number of drunk drivers on the roads and the increased presence of children out trick-or-treating, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration advises impaired motorists to use sober ride programs and other transportation alternatives.

Surge pricing will likely be prevalent by ride-sharing companies on Halloween night. However, through Berg’s “Sober Free Cab Ride Home Program,” Halloween revelers can hail a Yellow Cab for free by calling 444-2222 or using the new Curb App. Visit www.yellowcabsacramento.com  to download the Curb App.

Railroad Museum Celebrates “Diesels & Dads” On Father’s Day Weekend - June 20 & 21

California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum are gearing up to celebrate “Diesels and Dads” on Father’s Day weekend – June 20 & 21, 2015 -- by operating two visually-exciting and gracefully-styled diesel locomotives as part of the popular weekend excursion train rides on the Sacramento Southern Railroad.  Departing hourly from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the brightly painted diesels -- Western Pacific No. 913 and Southern Pacific “Daylight” No. 6051 -- will pull the excursion trains both Saturday and Sunday on Father’s Day weekend.   The eye-catching and classic streamlined locomotives are representative of the so-called “First Generation” of diesel-electric locomotives which replaced steam engines all across America during the 1940s and 1950s.

All Aboard…Steam Train Rides Return to the Sacramento Southern Railroad on 4/11!

Soon after the opening weekend of the 32nd consecutive season of excursion train rides on the Sacramento Southern Railroad on Easter weekend (April 4 & 5, 2015), California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum are pleased to announce vintage steam locomotive Granite Rock No. 10 will return to service on April 11, 2015.  First introduced in May 1997 by the California State Railroad Museum, Granite Rock No. 10 was taken out of service in 2011 for extensive boiler repairs during which time diesel locomotives pulled the excursion trains. Granite Rock No. 10 is an oil-fired steam engine built by the H.K. Porter Co. for the U.S. Army in 1942.

Special “Diesel Days” Activities on Father’s Day Weekend!

On Father’s Day weekend, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum are offering very special “Diesel Days” activities with train rides on the Sacramento Southern Railroad featuring visually-exciting and gracefully-styled diesel locomotives.

Plus, on Father’s Day Sunday, the rarely seen Southern Pacific road switcher No. 5208 will be on special display for one day only.  Built in 1948 by Baldwin Locomotive Works and retired in 1969, SP5208 is an early diesel locomotive that represents the major effort of its day to adapt to diesel locomotive construction. Excursion train ride guests will be treated to a six-mile, 45-minute roundtrip excursion along the levees of the Sacramento River. The train features a combination of vintage closed coaches with comfortable seats and open-air “gondolas” with bench style seating.
