Sacramento soldier gets hero's welcome after IED attack

SACRAMENTO, CA - It's not unusual to see posters, signs and tears when servicemen and women return from combat overseas.

But at the Sacramento International Airport, the unusual sight came from 4-year-old Sidney, who hadn't seen her daddy in nine months.

"Who's coming home?" Sidney's grandma asked. "Daddy!' she screamed.

Daddy is United States Army Corporal Jarus Perez.  He leads a special team unit in Afghanistan and his latest deployment lasted nine months.

Friday's homecoming almost didn't happen though, after his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device on Jan. 3rd.

Shrapnel hit Perez in the arm and hip -- inches from a grenade.

Even more amazing though was Perez' bravery.  During the attack he found an unconscious comrade and pulled him to safety.

Perez was awarded the Purple Heart while still recovering at a unit hospital.

Victoria's Secret 2010 Fashion Show

SLIDESHOW: Victoria's Secret 2010 fashion show

By Andrea Mandell, USA TODAY

NEW YORK - Call it the year of the hot mommy. Behind many of the biggest names on Victoria's Secret's supersized catwalk Wednesday night was a pint-sized tot, waiting at home.

"There are so many girls who have babies," said Alessandra Ambrosio, 29, backstage before the fashion show, not yet changed into the pink silk robe and flip-flops handed to all the models. Her daughter Anja, 2, is starting to recognize Mom's work. "If I show her a Victoria's Secret catalogue or a campaign, she will know which one is me," she said proudly. "And she poses already."

The New Professional: Party tights and forgetting

OK, so I lied. But I didn't do it on purpose. You see, when I wrote this guest post for Classy Career Girl about a month ago, I actually wrote that I cheated three times.  However, when I went back to add links, I could only find two links. I tried and tried but could not for the life of me remember what my third cheat was. Had I counted the two pieces of my skirt suit? Unlikely. So I changed it to "twice" and linked both cheats I could remember. But the third cheat just would not get out of my mind. Had I just imagined it?
