With a high concentration of locally-owned businesses filled with an amazing array of unique and treasured gift ideas, holiday shoppers are encouraged to visit Midtown, Downtown and Old Sacramento merchants during Small Business Saturday on November 28, 2015.   In addition to the assortment of goods that can be found at local retailers, Sacramento’s urban core offers a festive and fun holiday destination to make the shopping experience both magical and memorable.

1.       Get adequate rest leading up to race day to ensure that you don’t end up tired morning of Thanksgiving and race day.

Railroad Museum to Showcase a Family-Favorite “Small Train Holiday” on November 27 & 28

California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum have exciting plans to dazzle, delight and engage post-Thanksgiving visitors with a special “Small Train Holiday” on Friday, November 27, and Saturday, November 28, 2015.

For this special two-day holiday extravaganza, the Museum brings together a magical assortment of trains, hundreds of feet of track and an array of buildings and accessories. For just two days a year, local organizations and devoted individuals set up shop in the Museum, filling the Roundhouse with delightful model and toy train layouts of every description. Visitors of all ages will marvel at the variety of locomotives that pull pretend passengers and scaled-down shipments through all kinds of scenery, whether modeled on real places or created in the imaginations of the collectors. Additionally, guests can enjoy participating in a discovery-filled scavenger hunt throughout the Museum.

Railroad Museum to Debut All-New Exhibit Titled Fast Tracks: The World of High-Speed Rail on 11/20

The California State Railroad Museum is proud to debut an all-new, interactive exhibit titled Fast Tracks: The World of High-Speed Rail on Friday, November 20, 2015. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a high-speed train simulator with interactive controls and a digital projector that will allow museum guests to simulate the experience of piloting a modern high-speed train. Museum guests will also have the unique opportunity to board a life-size mockup of a high-speed train to experience the point-of-view of a passenger and learn more about the technology that makes it happen. In addition, the exhibit will include interactive maps that show high-speed rail throughout the world, video elements, and models and representations of differing approaches to high-speed rail design.

The new exhibit is aimed at helping museum visitors gain a better understanding of the history of high-speed rail throughout the world, and explores the following themes:

Are you looking for new places to take your family that are educational and inexpensive?  Then come check out the award-winning Discover & Go program that offers Yolo County Library cardholders free and low-cost passes to over 40 museums, science centers, zoos, theatres and other cultural venues throughout Northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area!

This unique partnership between cultural venues and libraries was launched in 2011 to provide California library cardholders with discounted admission to cultural institutions in their own backyard.  In Yolo and Sacramento County alone, library card holders will have access to the Gibson House Museum, Sacramento Children’s Museum and the Croker Art Museum. In addition, cardholders can choose from over 35 destinations including:
