Western Dental Continues as State Leader; Accepting Denti-Cal Patients at All Locations

Tooth decay is the most common chronic illness among California children and is five times more widespread than asthma, according to the “2016 California Children’s Report Card” issued by the advocacy group Children Now.

The report states that 55 percent of California’s low-income children are enrolled in the state’s Denti-Cal program, a Medi-Cal affiliate, but fewer than half received dental care in 2015. Denti-Cal is a public insurance program that provides services for low-income individuals and families who meet eligibility requirements.

Western Dental, the leading provider of Denti-Cal services in California, is working to change those statistics. Western Dental keeps its doors open to new and returning Denti-Cal patients at all 160 of its California offices. Western Dental providers served Denti-Cal patients in approximately 1 million visits in 2015.

American Heart Association Seeks Heart-Healthy Woman For Go Red Total Makeover

44 million women in the U.S. are affected by heart disease and stroke and each of them have a story to tell. Join ABC10’s Dina Kupfer at The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women® movement as she emcees the Go Red Total Makeover on Saturday, February 6 at Arden Fair from 10am to 2pm. The event will spotlight one local heart-healthy woman who is in the process of making herself over from the inside out.

Nominees should be a female resident within the community or surrounding area and have taken action to improve her heart health.  The heart-healthy makeover recipient will receive a $500 Macy’s gift card at the Go Red Total Makeover event, and additionally, will participate in local media and in-studio interviews.

Railroad Museum Calls Out for Volunteers & Offers Special Drop-In Open House

Fascinated by railroading history? Interested in working on a train? California State Parks, the California State Railroad Museum and Old Sacramento State Historic Park (SHP) are now recruiting adults (18 or older) who are interested in volunteering to help communicate the West’s fascinating heritage of railroading and the California Gold Rush. For those interested, a special, drop-in Volunteer Open House is scheduled for Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Stanford Gallery located at 111 I Street in Old Sacramento (next door to the California State Railroad Museum).  Volunteer applications are being accepted now through January 30 and will be followed by an interview process.

Learn everything you always wanted to know about pruning roses. The classes will be held on two Saturdays both at 9:00 a.m. Jan. 23: Repeat Blooming Roses. Jan. 30: Once-Blooming Old Garden Roses. Come to one class or both. All classes include hands-on pruning of the roses.

18th Annual “Sacramento Museum Day” on February 6

With 26 museums and local destinations participating, the 2016 Sacramento Museum Day is proudly presented by Bank of America, Sacramento Covered and Amtrak®.  To the delight of the greater Sacramento area community, the participating local museums will offer free or half-priced admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016, during the 18th annual event.  Most of the more than 25 museums will offer free admission whereas two destinations located in residential areas -- the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town -- will offer half-priced admission to offset parking and traffic control costs.
